Greetings:
As I was shopping in my local Vitamin Cottage one of the magazines caught my eye. It was Fitness RX for Women! On the cover it had “National Bestseller Skinny Bitch! Is It Hip To Be A Vegan?” There was also a headline “Why She’s No “Skinny Bitch” How Kim Kardashian Trains to Keep Her Curves!” I started checking the magazine out at the store but after interviewing Kim Barnouin co-author of the book, Skinny Bitch, I was interested in what the article had to say.
The article, Skinny Bitch: Is it Hip and Healthy to be a Vegan?, by Susan M. Kleiner, PhD, RD, FACN, CNS, FISSN, (wow lots of letters behind her name) wasn’t very complimentary. She pretty much hated the book, although she had to admit that the title did get people interested. However her comments about the way the book was written were pretty bleak. She laments that “I really tried to look past the nasty, repulsive language that must be aimed at women with very low self-esteem.” She also made comments about how the authors just want everyone to be skinny bitches. It would appear that Ms. Kleiner didn’t read the entire book. The authors explain that the reason they named the book and wrote it in the manner that they did was to grab people’s attention and get them to read it.
I read the book cover to cover in three days, I couldn’t put it down. I loved it, although I will admit I had to skip parts of if because it was just too difficult to read. I found the book edgy, fun and informative. I also totally enjoyed interviewing Kim and like I told Christen at the end of the interview it was almost disappointing because Kim is so nice!
If you missed the show you really should listen and decide for yourself. The interview was interesting and informative and it isn’t about being skinny and bitchy. It is all about being healthy. Just click here to listen to the show.
Oh and that article about Kim Kardashian not being a skinny bitch. She wears a size 0 – when did that become a “big girl” size?
